The Challenge

Youth Insearch wanted to create greater awareness about the issue of suicide amongst young people and to help build greater resilience and coping skills to prevent youth suicide through the End Youth Suicide week campaign.

The Solution

The Fifty Acres team aided in the successful delivery of Youth Insearch’s End Youth Suicide Week events (EYSW) in 2022 and 2023 by connecting with young people through their unique, trauma-informed, peer-to-peer model approach, providing a unique solution for the government.

In partnership with Youth Insearch, Fifty Acres hosted 75 members of Parliament at Parliament House for the EYSW breakfast, which featured presentations from Youth Insearch staff, including young peer workers, who spoke of their journey from trauma to triumph. The team also assisted in arranging one-on-one meetings with over 60 Ministers in the space of mental health, health, youth and several other areas.

In addition, we assisted with an installation on Parliament House lawn to complement the event, as well as attracting significant media attendance.

The Outcome

Youth Insearch coverage for EYSW featured profiles in top-tier outlets The Australian, ABC, Crikey, Nine, and community newspapers across the country. In just one week, the initiative received a total of 159 pieces of coverage, reaching 125 million people.
